Weekend #1, Saturday, 11:00 am to 3:00 pm

Hike to the Zacatlán River. We leave from the school and drive to a location seven miles west of Zacatlán to begin our hike. We will stop at a resort for lunch which overlooks the magnificent valley.

Weekend #2, Sunday, 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

A trip to the indigenous village of Ahuacatlán. We will travel an hour and a half from Zacatlán to reach the village. The people there maintain many of the traditional customs and most are bilingual, speaking Nahuatl (an Aztec language) and Spanish. We will visit the exquisite local church as well as the Sunday market, to experience one of the oldest traditions in Mexico. We will stop for a picnic and a swim by the river. Bring your own food or buy it there at the market.

Weekend #3, Saturday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

Journey to Piedras Encimadas. This regional park is located just 1/2 hour from Zacatlán. The mysterious rock formations in this park frequently seem to take human and other capricious forms. We’ll have a picnic lunch after exploring this area of stunning and unusual rock formations.

Weekend #4, Saturday, all day

Visit to Tlaxcala, capital city of the state of Tlaxcala. We will spend a day touring this historic city, visiting museums, landmarks and markets. We will stop at a restaurant for lunch. **

**Students are responsible for bringing or buying their own lunch and for transportation costs during weekend activities.
